there are days, days when victor wakes up and doesn’t really wake up because there seems to be something like a cloud wrapped tightly around his head and it’s hard to think, hard to see right, and every noise and every word seem to be reaching him like through a wall.

on those days, yuuri wakes up first. he makes victor tea and leaves it at his nightstand before he takes makkachin out. the house is quiet then, but victor hates it so much that he just scrunches his eyes shut and counts the seconds until they come back. he’s at 3126 when they do, and it doesn’t surprise victor at all that makkachin paddles right to him and curls at his side. what does surprise him though, is that yuuri does the same thing on his other side and wraps himself around victor’s back – light, non-intrusive, yet secure and warm.

“let’s take a mental health day,” yuuri mumbles into victor’s back after a moment, which has victor immediately turning to him, all his troubles forgotten.

“are you not feeling well?” he asks, but yuuri only gives him a little smile.

“no, it’s for you,” he says back and it’s such a simple thing that victor goes speechless. “it’s okay,” yuuri tells him then. “it’s okay, vitya. take your time.”

and when victor pushes his face into yuuri’s chest, listens to his calming heartbeat and fights against drowsiness and tears, yuuri repeats it over and over like magical healing spell. whether it’s that that works, or if it’s simply yuuri’s closeness, when victor wakes from their little nap, he can feel the world sharpen around the edges and its focus is clear – the beauty that sleeps next to him. both of them, in fact. and it is right.
