Proud to join friends, colleagues, and fellow New Yorkers at Terminal 4 today

To everyone alongside us at JFK today, to everyone who brought their passion, their anger, their pride, and their legal expertise to airports around the country: Thank you. Thanks to your efforts, the ACLU has successfully sued to temporarily block parts of this unconscionable abuse of executive power.

There’s plenty more to do, and plenty of ways to do it. If you want to do something right now, consider a donation to the Muslim Public Affairs Council, or sign this petition (started by the great George Takei!) to stand up for Muslims in the U.S., and stand against the fear and xenophobia that threatens our community, our nation, and our world. 

History will remember how we responded. Don’t give up.

Thousands got out today in airports to protest against Trump’s Muslim Ban singing “This Land is Your Land.” and a Federal judge has been able to block the Muslim Ban but it’s only a temporary fix so pls if you’re american Call your member of Congress and demand they overturn the ban for good! if you can’t or aren’t american but able financially pls donate to the ACLU.

To everyone who is protesting at airports: you are heroes. To everyone currently detained: you are loved.

Don’t turn swastikas into windows

problems with turning swastika graffiti into windows:

  • you know and I know and nazis know that it used to be a swastika
  • the police probably don’t know or care that it used to be a swastika so they’re not gonna do anything about it
  • it leaves the graffiti undocumented
  • it leaves the graffiti unreported
  • it doesn’t get the graffiti cleaned up
  • affected groups still have to see it and know that a swastika was there

instead:

  • take a picture of it
  • report it
  • make sure it’s documented
  • make sure it gets cleaned up

I’d much rather see no swastika graffiti than see a window and think “the police won’t care about this because some ‘ally’ thought they were helping”

Yes, thank you!! This is extremely unhelpful. Speaking as a Jew, it is far better for allies of local minority communities to TAKE A PICTURE of the graffiti and document it, then ASSIST US IN REPORTING it to the police. Covering up the swastika with other imagery means that POLICE CANNOT PROSECUTE the incident as a hate crime and it becomes very unlikely that the vandal(s) will be caught. It may make you feel ~warm and fluffy~, but our communities know exactly what’s under that Windows logo and it does not make us less angry or afraid. Moreover, it makes clean-up /so much harder/ and only further vandalizes the structure (which, let’s be honest, is usually a Jewish house of worship, organization, or a Jewish-owned business). PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. PLEASE.

Honestly I agree with the theory that Kyle’s birth name is Ben Organa and that Han took Leia’s last name but I disagree that it’s just because Alderaan is matriarchal, like, A. you’d better believe Han would’ve taken Leia’s last name no matter how patriarchal her culture was, and 2. Solo is the name of a notorious criminal with all sorts of bounties on his head, but Organa is a name associated with royalty, meaning Han could show up in sweatpants at any restaurant in the republic and get a table for Han and Chewie Organa without a reservation

I love that Chewie is also an Organa, no questions asked.
