Yuuri knows from experience that Viktor is just a regular guy. One that managed to win five consecutive golds, set new world records, and flip the skating world and its expectation of what constitutes a reasonable routine on its head, but still.
Even so, after half a decade of marriage and learning to help each other though the less glamorous aspects of being a human navigating the world—it sneaks up on Yuuri, sometimes: the realization of ‘holy shit this is Viktor Nikiforov™ my childhood idol.’
Thirty-year-old Yuuri is privy to things about Viktor’s life that fifteen-year-old Yuuri could’ve never dreamed. Intimate things that extend the trivia bullet points in the Figure Skate Life articles rotting in crumpled piles under his childhood bed. Like how Viktor’s snores sound like a bullfrog gargling marbles when he’s really sleep deprived or how he has very specific hair-related rituals involving mayonnaise and egg whites that Yuuri has a feeling have more to do with allaying his fears of his receding hairline than nourishing his follicles.
Yuuri’s star struck moments never seem to happen when he’d expect, like at the skating rink, watching Viktor transition from an effortless triple axel into a flying sit spin.
Instead, they tend to manifest when it’s just the two of them settling into the interstitial moments between the major plot points of their lives. One minute, Yuuri’s sprawled out on the couch—the laptop on his belly warming the sliver of skin his hiked up shirt reveals. The next, he’s being called over to the bathroom to hand his husband a roll of toilet paper through a crack in the door.
It’s a familiar routine—Viktor can never seem to remember that toilet paper is an integral part of the human waste to toilet exchange—but for whatever reason, this time Yuuri feels the need to text Phichit about it later.
(20:14) I can’t believe I just handed Viktor Nikiforov toilet paper through the door??? He didn’t even pull up his pants?????
(20: 15) You mean Viktor Nikiforov-Katsuki, the man you married five years ago and whose hand you held through a colonoscopy last Spring?
(20:15) ??? I mean I guess?????
It’s a joke at its core—their own personal meme.
‘Oh my god Viktor Nikiforov just took a dirty plate out of the sink and reused it???’
‘Viktor Nikiforov just asked me if I want to go get ice cream. It’s 4 am and I’m ??? ? ??’
There’s an aspect of truth to it, though. Yuuri’s come a long way with his anxiety and self-esteem since his Detroit days, but there remains a persistent, needling part of him that will never quite believe he’s worthy of the love he receives. It was hard enough to come to terms with his family’s affection, and their love is meant to be unconditional.
But despite what Yuuri might believe, Viktor’s not immune to it, either. It hits him unexpectedly, like when he’s chasing Yuuri around their apartment because “your toenails are talons, Yuuri, honestly why do you let them get so long? How is that even comfortable?”
Yuuri squeals and shields himself behind Makkachin, insisting that he’s the toenail Samson and if Viktor trims them, he’ll lose all of his powers.
“What powers?” Viktor folds his arms over his chest with a crooked smile.
“Toenail related ones,” Yuuri says, slapping the nail clippers out of Viktor’s grip.
Viktor stands there—watching Yuuri laugh all crinkle-eyed and rosy-cheeked—and he just wants to sit on the floor and cry because ‘holy shit this is The Boy Who Saved My Life™” and how did he ever get so lucky?
Christianity and conservatism are not compatible ideologies. Conservatives, socially, are against refugees, against equality, and fiscally are against social programs and financial aid to those in need.
Jesus demanded they help refugees, demanded equality, and demanded aid to the poor.
To be conservative means to not be Christian, and to claim you are both is to be a hypocrite.
Something Jesus also condemned.
I don’t think you know much about either ideology
Sincerely, a conservative Christian
I’ve read the bible six times, I know what it says.
I’m also a polisci student, and pay attention to what conservatives do. In fact I’ve studied conservatism, in addition to the other political ideologies that exist in our world.
Jesus said:
When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat
them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your
native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.
(Leviticus 19:33-34)
When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very
edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go
over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen.
Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. (Leviticus 19:9-10)
He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the
foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are
to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in
Egypt.(Deuteronomy 10:18-19)
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and
you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I
needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I
was in prison and you came to visit me. (Matthew 25:25-36)
Just to quote a very, very few.
Conservatives repeatedly repeal and cut back programs that feed the poor ,including poor children, cut back education, and cut back healthcare, all things vital to the poor. Conservatives repeatedly want no refugees, want no immigrants (travelers), including children. In fact, many conservatives want to throw the existing immagrants (travelers) out of the country (and need I remind you, Jesus was not a “legal” immagrant, so to claim ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’ immigrants are any different is still to ignore what the bible has commanded of you.
I know exactly what each ideology is about. You are a hypocrite, and not a Christian. You only call yourself one while flaunting what was commanded of you.
in the field of religious studies, we often call jesus one of the first radical leftists. he was a social anarchist with communist leanings, and that’s why his draw was such a threat to the imperial system—because he was calling for the dismantling of oppressive power structures. the conservative romans were the ones who killed jesus, and conservatives after are the ones continuing to kill his message thousands of years after his death.
Don’t forget he fought against slut-shaming, embraced alcoholics and the homeless, and straight up said you can’t get into heaven if you die rich.
When I say conservative Christians would deport Jesus if they actually saw him or blacklist him if they heard him…this is why.
And it’s funny because those fools are the Pharisees and can’t even see that.
The greatest commandment of Christianity is to love your neighbor like yourself and that’s not what conservatives do.
Every year, multiple times a year, they convince ppl to fork out thousands of dollars and….literally nothing changes. There’s no doubt in my mind they’re pocketing most of this money lol
Yep
That’s what’s so wild to me. They’ve made exactly 0 changes other than adding the ‘Exclude’ tags and that def doesn’t take 130k.
You know if any of you actually bothered to click the link it’ll take you to their budget update and break down exactly what the spend the money on, over 70% of which is spent on server expenses, monitoring tools and system licences.
They also spent a good amount of the rest of the 30% budget on significant server overhaul costs.
AO3 is literally a service you get for free and the audacity you’d have to not bother reading the very open budget plan they have, but to then bitch and whine about people donating to keep the site running is wild.
